BLACK PEACOCK

Premium handcrafted Afrocentric goods — woven with heritage, worn with pride.

WHO WE ARE

Black Peacock is at the heart of Ghana’s basket-weaving tradition, based in the Upper East Region near the Burkina Faso border. We work with skilled artisans across the Red Volta Valley to create premium handwoven and handcrafted products.

As a female-led brand, we are committed to uplifting African craftsmanship by providing fair livelihoods, dignity, and global recognition to the women, youth, and men behind each piece.

Our collections—including baskets, crossbody bags, fugu jackets, traditional and modern fugu wear, hats, fans, and home décor—are not mass-produced. Each item is a unique expression of Afrocentric design, cultural heritage, and Northern Ghanaian artistry.

OUR STORY

The story of Black Peacock begins in the vibrant market streets of Bolgatanga, where the sound of grass being split and woven into form has echoed for centuries. The Frafra and Gurune peoples of this region have passed the art of basket weaving from generation to generation — a tradition as old as the community itself.

Black Peacock was founded to honour and elevate this tradition. We saw an opportunity to connect the extraordinary skill of our local artisan communities with buyers worldwide who value authenticity, sustainability, and cultural meaning — buyers turning away from mass-produced goods and seeking something real.

Today, Black Peacock stands as a hub for Afrocentric creativity — curating, designing, and bringing to market products that tell the story of a people, a place, and a purpose.
